The sea was quiet, the night was clear, visibility was good. I plotted the position every thirty minutes, kept the radar on the twenty-four-mile range and leant on the dodger to look out into the night. Plenty lights indeed, and more appearing all the time. It was a big fleet, getting bigger as we approached. The fishing fleets off the Philippines were as big as they get, numbering in the hundreds.
