Born to German immigrant parents in Jersey City, New Jersey, on March 6, 1891, Victor Arthur Kilian drove a laundry truck for his father’s business and labored as a longshoreman and ditchdigger. In 1908, he joined a small repertory company in New England and Canada and in 1912 toured in the production of The Red Window. Kilian’s big theatrical break came in 1924 when he was tapped to replace Perry Ivins as Peter Cabot in the original Broadway production of Eugene O’Neill’s Desire Under the Elms. On the strength of that performance, the young actor was continuously employed on the eastern stage during the 1920s and 1930s in Beyond the Horizon (1926), Triple Crossed (1927), The Black Crook (1929), The Seagull (1929), At the Bottom (1930), Cloudy with Showers (1931), and Riddle Me This (1932). Though appearing unbilled in the 1929 film, Gentlemen of the Press, Kilian’s official movie career began in 1932 with The Wiser Sex. Over the next thirty years, the lanky, villainous-looking actor appeared almost annually in scores of films including The Public Menace (1935), The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1938), Jesse James (1939), The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1939), Dr. Vacation places in hawaii 2016.
