Inside the House of the Whispering Willows is a replica of the Terracotta Army. Although it is onethird the size of the originial, it is a powerful image. The army was discovered by farmers in 1974, near the Mausoleum of the first Qin emperor. The figures date back to 210 B.C. The army was built to protect the emperor in the afterlife. Many emperors had similar armies; one even had a mess hall to serve his army in.

On our Tectona sailing days, we would all be given turns at the various tasks: steering; lookout; washing down the decks; greasing the windlass; repairing ropes; cooking; and a myriad of other sailing ship tasks.
