Here at the crossroads of Lazio, Umbria, and Tuscany, and in the heart of the Etruscan homeland, you can still find good values on a rustic farmhouse near the haughtier homes of Chianti. Todi is already overpriced, but certainly worth a look around. Orvieto, nearby, is home to a pleasant white wine and boasts one of the more remarkable cathedrals in all of Italy. Terni is not as well endowed architecturally, but it has a distinct identity as the birthplace of St. Valentine and is spotted with country homes just a 40-minute train ride from Rome.
