Winterfest offers live music, incredible ice carving, fire pit competition, the popular 10 Barrel Rail Jam ski and snowboard competition, a bustling fine art and food marketplace, the OMSI Kids Area with many fun activities (behind the Les Schwab Amphitheater), numerous excellent food and beverage options, and the Winterfest Wine Walk in which attendees can stroll along a designated path and sample wine along the way at numerous Old Mill businesses. Each year, about one month prior to the big bash, a Winterfest Fire King and Ice Queen are chosen through a theatrical dating-game improvisational performance, and the couple then presides over Winterfest, as well as making numerous public appearances prior to the festival.

Winterfest also offers the ebullient Kids Hot Cocoa Run, in which festival princes and princesses must complete an interactive course with stops where they add ingredients to create the perfect cup of hot cocoa.

In addition, Winterfest includes a themed fun run—the Royal Run—that courses through the Old Mill District, with surprises along the way. Runners can register online or the day prior in person at the festival information tent. This three-day wintertime extravaganza runs from 5 to 10 pm on Friday,

11 am to 10 pm on Saturday, and 11 am to 6 pm on Sunday. Days are short in February, and the nighttime hours at Winterfest are magical, especially if snowfall makes an appearance, rendering the entire music-laden scene nothing short of bedazzling. Winterfest is extremely popular, drawing thousands of people, so get tickets (inexpensive) in advance via the festival website.
