Map of Baltimore Tourist on Twenty years after exiting his home country, Brathwaite returned to Jamaica to appear on Never Ending Wailers, an album of reworked songs initiated by Peter Tosh and released to a lukewarm reception in 1991. Over the next several years, the singer tried unsuccessfully to restart his career. On June 2, 1999, Brathwaite, 47, and friend Lawrence (Chadda) Scott, 49, were at Scott’s home on Rose Avenue in the Duhaney Park section of Kingston. According to published reports, three men emerged from a car, entered the house, and shot both men who were later pronounced dead on arrival at the Kingston Public Hospital. Police believe the unsolved murders were part of a gangland drug war in which Scott was the intended target and Brathwaite just collateral damage. Further Reading Katz, David.
