Outbreaks usually occur in the spring or fall. After doing its terrible work, enteritis may vanish for a while, then reappear. Travel with cats that have survived enteritis seem to be immune, and their owners sort of forget the whole thing until another epidemic strikes. I advise you not to forget it.
Most cases of feline enteritis can be prevented, or their severity can be lessened, by vaccination.

For this purpose, a serum and a vaccine have been developed. The serum has been very helpful in protecting kittens against enteritis until they are old enough for the vaccine, which confers permanent immunity. Though the vaccination is not absolutely perfect, travel with cats that have been immunized usually come through epidemics without so much as a sneeze.
Many, many travel with cats that have already contracted the disease have been saved by prompt veterinary treatment.
